Með opnun nýs vegar um Arnkötludal, á milli Reykhólasveitar og Stranda styttist leiðin til Hólmavíkur frá höfuðborgarsvæðinu um ríflega 40 km auk þess sem vegurinn er malbikaður alla leið. Með opnun þessarar miklu samgöngubótar ætti það að taka aðeins 2 1/2 - 3 klst að heimsækja Galdrasafnið á Hólmavík. Hér að neðan er vegakort sem við útbjuggum til að útskýra leiðina betur. Með þessari nýju leið opnaðist líka á skemmtilegan hring þannig að það þarf ekki að fara alveg sömu leið til baka. Galdrasafnið er opið alla daga yfir veturinn, en gott er að hringja á undan í síma 897 6525 og láta vita af komu sinni og einnig ef gestir okkar vilja fá eitthvað að borða á Kaffi Galdri í leiðinni.
Reykjafjörður is a fjord in the northern part of Strandir. It is only appr. one hour drive up there from Hólmavík. In early 17th C. three basque whaleships sank in this beautiful fjord. The old herring village Djúpavík is in Reykjarfjörður, as well as the old shark station Gjögur where there is an airport as well, with direct flight to Reykjavík two times a week. Frá því síðasta vor hefur verið rekið kaffihús samhliða Galdrasafninu á Hólmavík. Á þessu göldrótta kaffihúsi er meðal annars hægt að fá vöfflur með rjóma,
ekta súkkulaðiköku og rúgbrauð með ýmsu áleggi og geggjaða kjötsúpu. Þar er
gott kaffi frá Kaffitári ásamt miklu úrvali af te en sérstök áhersla er lögð á te úr

Archaeological Excavations at Strákatangi in Hveravík, Kaldrananeshreppi 2008 Data Structure Report
This is a report of the excavations at Strákatangi
in Strandasýsla in 2008. Continuous excavations since 2005 have revealed
extensive remains from foreign whalers in the area. The remains of four
structures are visible at the Strákatangi site, three of them are clustered
together and the fourth at some distance from the main cluster. The three
structures that have been excavated from 2005 are tryworks, a large building
with three rooms (habitation) and one smaller building (cooperage). This report
is not the final discussion about the research as the excavation is ongoing. The
main aim of the report is to present the data in such a way that it be
accessible to both scholars and laymen and give a detailed description of all
elements of the project. The analysis of the data is still in progress and it is
understood that the reader will not publish any of the material contained herein
without the permission of Náttúrustofa Vestfjarða, Strandagaldur ses. and the

Strandagaldur gaf nýverið út kemur í ljós að margt það sem runnið hefur
í gegnum huga þjóðarinnar undanfarið er hægt að takast á við. Hver
kannast til dæmis ekki við að upplýsingastreymi til þjóðarinnar sé á
köflum bágborið og hlutum haldið leyndum fram í rauðan dauðann? Í
galdraskræðunum má meðal annars finna galdrarunu til að vita það sem
alþýðu er dulið. Einnig er að finna þjóðráð til að snúa hugarfari manns
eða jafnvel heillrar þjóðar ef einhver hefur á manni óþokka. Það er
galdur sem mætti til dæmis reyna á forsætisráðherra Bretlands, sem er
ekki vinsælasti maðurinn á Íslandi um þessar mundir. Einnig er að finna
ótal galdraráð í bókinni fyrir hverskyns glettingar, s.s. að senda
fretrúnir á menn en þær koma í veg fyrir að sá sami getur hvorki unnið
þjóð sinni gagn né ógagn meðan magakveisan og niðurgangurinn stendur

The Icelandic
Centre for Ethnology and Folklore, in association with the University
of Iceland, will host a symposium on approaches to humour within the
fields of folklore, anthropology and related disciplines, at
Hólmavík in the Strandir area of Iceland November
14th – 15th. The symposium aims to introduce, extend and
elaborate on innovative approaches to humour as well as offering an
insight into current Icelandic and international research. Papers will
focus on various aspects of humour such as oral tradition, centre and
periphery, the uses of satire and caricature, curating, mediazation and
the practice of humour in transnational relations.
Strandagaldur hyggst gefa út rímnadisk með kvæðakonunni Ásu Ketilsdóttur á
Laugalandi við Ísafjarðardjúp á næstunni. Skúli Gautason tónlistarmaður sá um
upptökur sem fóru fram á heimili Ásu fyrir um tveimur árum. Á hljómdiskinum fer
Ása með barnarímur auk þess sem hún segir nokkrar sögur og þulur sem hún lærði í
bernsku. Á uppvaxtarárum sínum á Ytra-Fjalli í Aðaldal lærði Ása mikið af
stökum, kvæðum og þulum en það var mikið kveðið og sungið á bernskuheimili
hennar. Ásta Þórisdóttir myndlistarmaður mun sjá um útlit disksins en nokkuð
veglegur bæklingur um innihald hans mun fylgja með útgáfunni, myndskreyttur
teikningum eftir Ásu úr barnæsku.
An international workshop, Routes To Landscapes, will be hosted by the Icelandic
Centre for Ethnology and Folklore (ICEF) in Hólmavík, Iceland, October 10 - 11,
2008. ICEF is a new institution under the border of Strandagaldur ses, a self
profit organization that for example runs the Museum of Sorcery & Witchcraft and is
involved in many projects in the field of historical recearch and
tourism. The workshop’s focus is on the ways in which people move in
landscapes and the routes they follow in spatial as well as temporal way.
Simultaneously, the workshop considers how landscapes change their forms and/or
meanings as people move through them as well as considering landscapes as moving
forces that can influence people’s mobility and directions. Routes and
directions, when considered from a spatial/temporal position, not only lead
people to and from landscapes but also connect landscapes (or disconnect) and,
moreover, make, construct and, even, transform landscapes.
Most of our guests from abroad this year have been from Germany. The
Germans counts appr. 36% of total visits of international guests. The French are
in seat nr. 2 with appr. 12% and people from Switzerland and Italy in seat three
to four. It is for the first time that visitors from abroad counts more than
Icelanders, something that was not expected until year 2010. When comparing
Icelandic guests that came to our museum and other nations this year, we found
out that our foreign guests are 3% more than the Icelandic. Total guests have
been increasing each year and mostly because of tourists from other countrys.
